Even though the winter season is upon us and many of you will not be able to get out on your bikes for a few months, please don't forget to stay active in your communities and volunteer for other great causes that need your help!Motorcycle Pin

Thank you all again for your support in 2010, and for all you have done with the Toy Runs and other charity motorcycle rides around the country.  Keep the spirit strong in 2011!

Honoring our Heroes with Custom Coins and Custom Pins

Friday, December 3, 2010 by Michael Meador
I always love when we get the opportunity to deal with a new police or fire department in creating a custom coin, custom pin, or embroidered patch, it's exciting to help people bring their thoughts to form with a tangible token.  However several times in the past few months I have had to field some pretty sobering phone calls from departments wanting to design a custom coin or lapel pin honoring a fallen officer or firefighter.  I take these requests to heart each time knowing that we have the honor of creating a custom pin or challenge coin that will be cherished by these fallen heroes family and friends.  With these requests coming in I wanted to take a minute to stop and say thank you to all the law enforcement, fire fighters, and EMS crews out there keeping the public safe each and every day.  Our thoughts and prayers are with all these families and departments as they have lost their loved ones and friends recently.

Next time you see an officer or firefighter out, shake their hand, buy them lunch, or just say thanks and let them know you appreciate what they do.

Motorcyle Pins and Biker Pins for a Great Cause

Thursday, December 2, 2010 by Michael Meador
Motorcycle Lapel PinEven in the cold summer months you can't keep a good rider down.  We've had the pleasure of creating many custom pins and custom patches in the last couple of months, but there was one custom motorcycle pin we worked on recently that really stood out.  The pin you see here was done for a charity motorcycle rally that was thought up by a high school student.  CJ took it on as a senior project, that has now turned into an annual charity ride for child abuse awareness drawing over 150 riders each year, and we are thrilled to be a part of this by making custom lapel pins for his cause.

We are very honored to be a part of this project by making this custom pin for CJ, and we applaud this fine young man for his efforts.

Service Lapel Pins for Veterans

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 by Michael Meador
Service Lapel PinWe were recently contacted by a group of retired military veterans who wanted to work on their own custom pin.  Their goal was to recreate replicas of the lapel pins they received while active in the 1960's and 70's.  It was a great opportunity for us, not only to create really awesome unique custom lapel pins, but it was even better to hear the stories behind the pins.  It was great to hear about the meaningService Lapel Pin behind each element of these lapel pin designs as each element was a story of its own.  If you are interested in collecting lapel pins, or just want to here a good story and learn a little history, I encourage you to check out this link.

Boy Scout’s 100th Anniversary - A custom pin for a centennial occasion

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 by Michael Meador

We recently had the opportunity to create a custom lapel pin for the Crossroads of America council regarding their celebration of 100 years of Boy Scouts. This project was a great opportunity for us, and we appreciated being able to be part of such an amazing part of this centennial history. These custom pins were handed out among members of the council to be proudly displayed in their lapel pin collections, alongside their patch and badge counter parts. We’ve talked before about our involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, and we’re happy to see the tradition continue. Here’s to the next 100 years!

Lapel Pin Trading is the Spectator Sport at Special Olympics Games

Friday, May 14, 2010 by Michael Meador
Lapel Pin Trading Special OlympicsTo diehard fans of the Olympic Games, pin trading is an unofficial sport and some even go as far as calling it the “Spectator’s Sport.” The Special Olympics followed the same lead as the Olympics and included pin trading booths as early as 1987 when Red Lobster sponsored the first pin trading tent. Pin trading had been a popular activity at previous Special Olympics Games, but this was the first time there was a centralized location for athletes and fans to meet and swap pins. The Red Lobster “Pin Central” featured over 10,000 lapel pins.

Coca-Cola soon took over sponsorship of the pin trading area for the Special Olympics World Games. As with the Olympics, Coca-Cola has been affiliated with the Special Olympics for many years. Some say Coca-Cola singlehandedly popularized lapel pin trading, and with the popularity of the Olympics and Special Olympics lapel pins, it’s hard not to agree a little.
Lapel Pins are probably one of the most popular collectors’ items at the Special Olympics Games. Not only are they a commemorative item, but pin trading has proved to be a fun hobby for the participants.

The custom lapel pin designs focus on a variety of themes such as emblems, mascots, sports and other related themes. Each custom lapel pin has a unique code on the back of the pin, including a number that indicates the total number of custom made lapel pins for that design. Special Olympics pins that are issued in less than 35,000 copies can be somewhat valuable, but lapel pins that are in quantities of 7,000 to 1,000 are worth the most.

Not only is lapel pin trading a fun pastime for a great cause, it also helps support the Special Olympics’ efforts to offer people with intellectual disabilities "the chance to play, the chance to compete and the chance to grow."

Lapel Pins and Custom Coins for Indianapolis Fire Department 150th Anniversary

Thursday, May 13, 2010 by Craig Delay
Custom Lapel Pin Mini Badge for Indianapolis Fire DepartmentThe Indianapolis Fire Department recently celebrated their 150th anniversary and we were fortunate enough to be asked to make custom lapel pins and custom coins for the important occasion. The history of the Indianapolis Fire Department actually dates back to the 1820s when they only had one volunteer department. In those days, they had to use church bells for alarms and only had ladders and leather buckets to fight fires.

150 years later and there are over 1,000 firefighters and 38 fire stations in Indianapolis. They don’t use old fashioned leather buckets anymore to put out fires. In fact, for their 150th anniversary they had their own anniversary website, www.ifd150.com, and even a Facebook page.

How times have changed. Some people may think lapel pins and custom coins are old fashioned, but not the high-tech Indianapolis Fire Department. They trusted custom made lapel pin and challenge coin manufacturer Recognition Services to provide recognition lapel pins and custom challenge coins for the very important anniversary. Happy 150th Indianapolis Fire Department! Thanks for putting out those fires and keeping us safe.

Lapel Pins Thank Pilot Dog Members, Lions Clubs and Supporters

Monday, May 10, 2010 by Craig Delay
Lions Club International is known worldwide for helping the blind. From eyeglass donation boxes to free vision screenings, the Lions Club has helped the blind and vision impaired since Helen Keller challenged them in 1925. You have known about the sight programs, but did you know that Lions also help to support and train Lions Pilot Dogs?

There are many Lions Clubs in Ohio and elsewhere that have helped Pilot Dogs Incorporated. Lions Clyde R. Tipton and Dwight Swepston, members of the Tri-Village Lions Club, presented a motion in 1960 at the State Convention of Ohio Lions to adopt Pilot Dogs as a state project. This became reality at the 41st Convention and Pilot Dogs was granted permission to be known as “Lions Pilot Dogs” by Lions Club International. Over 500 Lions Clubs now support Pilots Dogs and their services to the blind.

They also have an Alumni Association that meets annually in Columbus, Ohio. Owners of guide dogs that have graduated from Pilot Dogs get together to exchange information, knowledge, experiences and to new learn about new training techniques and technologies.

As member Truie Davis told us, “We try to promote a better understanding among the general public of the value of guide dogs to those who are visually impaired, and to promote the acceptance of persons using guide dogs to all facilities and means of transportation open to the general public.”

We manufacture custom lapel pins for Pilot Dogs Incorporated to present to their alumni association members. They also use the lapel pins to thank Lions Clubs for their support and to anyone else working to support Pilot Dogs Inc. You can support Pilot Dogs here, and then contact us with your idea for a custom made lapel pin.

Custom Lapel Pins - Wheeling For Fun and a Cause

Friday, April 30, 2010 by Orlando Burgos
Few things are better than having fun with others while doing some good for your community. More people than ever before are combining their hobbies to do special things for their fellow citizens. A great example of this is motorcycle clubs holding fundraising events. One biker club had a bike ride to raise money for their favorite children’s hospital. They made it extra special by giving participants a special edition Cardon Toy Drive Ride motorcycle pin.

These custom lapel pins were used to commemorate the ride and show their civic pride. More clubs and groups are using service lapel pins, motorcycle pins or recognition lapel pins to celebrate their special events. Not only do we provide custom lapel pins, we also offer custom biker back patches for leather jackets. They are perfect for civic organizations or clubs to raise money and promote their events.

Many organizations have developed loyalty for their events by designing and handing out new logo lapel pins every year. They now have a larger and more loyal following which ultimately helps their fund raising efforts. Keep your participants and donors coming every year with a stylish logo lapel pin from Recognition Services.

Isn’t Time You Got “Pinned?”

Friday, April 23, 2010 by Orlando Burgos
Recognition Lapel Pin for Mini Marathon and EventsStill think getting “pinned” is old fashion? Far from it. There is no hotter craze or valuable pastime than collecting custom lapel pins. Just ask organizations like the Olympics or Disney who sell tons of logo lapel pins every year. Now you can play with the big boys and make your event or mini-marathon stand out even better.

Most mini-marathons give T-shirts, cups or other mementos that have little value and are soon gone and forgotten. Why not reward your winners, participants and volunteers with unique and recognition lapel pins? Since they signify your event, they will only increase in value and personal memories. What better way to show your appreciation, recognition and sense of achievement than by awarding your most valued participants a unique, custom lapel pin that they can have as a keepsake of their hard work and commitment. One that is proudly worn and not discarded.

While many awards or medals just sit on the shelf for no one to see, a lapel pin can be a constant remember of an outstanding achievement or memorable event.  While a T-Shirt will be worn once and get thrown in the junk drawer, a logo lapel pin is a constant promotion vehicle or statement of pride by the winners and participants.

Isn’t time you made your mini-marathon stand out?  Ordering is simple, easy and fast.  You’ll be surprised how easy it is to standout from the crowd at a value.  Getting “pinned” is not old-fashioned, but the best way to honor and promote your event or mini-marathon.

Vote Wayne Madden For Lions Club International 2nd Vice President

Friday, April 23, 2010 by Michael Meador

Wayne Madden is currently running for 2nd Vice President of Lions Club International. We support Wayne as he is from Indiana and encourage you to read about his efforts on the Wayne Madden Lions Club website.

Putting together a campaign for any type of office position is a lot of work. Candidates turn to promotional items such as lapel pins, badges, and custom embroidered patches to help increase awareness as well as votes. In addition to collectible Lions pins, Wayne is also using custom patches as fundraising tools to support his campaign. We wish Wayne and his team our best as he continues his campaign up until election time.

Police Mini Badges, Service Lapel Pins and More for Law Enforcement

Thursday, April 15, 2010 by Michael Meador

We have produced many mini badges for law enforcement and public safety personnel over the years. Police Departments typically want a custom lapel pin that is a replica of their police badge. Although smaller than a real badge, a Police mini badge can look nearly identical to the real McCoy. The police lapel pins are worn on the shoulder or elsewhere on the uniform, and can even be displayed in a wallet.

Police mini badges are available in any size or shape, but a 1” lapel pin is the average pendant size. The custom lapel pins are available in gold or silver plated options. Many custom options are available including special finishes, special colors, and the addition of gemstones.

Not only can we create Police mini badges, we have also made many real badges for law enforcement, public safety officers, security officers, correction officers and military professionals. Law Enforcement departments have also contacted us to design and manufacture mini handcuffs, cufflinks, key chains, medals, service lapel pins, patches, coins and other custom Law Enforcement jewelry.
